I'm not sure how much of a difference this will make for Pashto listeners in places like Afghanistan and northwestern Pakistan, but some of us are not able to get past the fact that outlets such as RFE and VOA were, and still are, U.S. government propaganda organizations.
There is nothing controversial about this statement, it's just a fact, and unfortunately we can't always says that the information they put out can be considered "journalism".
The BBC, which has a long running Pashto service, along with a great deal of journalistic integrity, may be more credible to discerning audiences.
But then again, if one is already predisposed to reject all Western sources, then this too might be (unfairly) rejected as propaganda as well.
